What is a hernia?

A hernia is a bulge that appears in the groin or abdominal wall.  It is visible because of a weakness in the abdominal wall muscles or where previous abdominal surgery has taken place.

Are there different types of hernia?

There are many different types of hernia that require different courses of diagnosis and treatment: Inguinal hernias, Femoral hernias, Epigastric hernias, Umbilical hernias and Incisional hernias.
